Detailed Recipe & Step By Step Instruction Here 👇

  • 📋 Ingredients:

    1. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    2. 1 teaspoon salt
    3. 1 cup shortening
    4. 1/2 cup cold water
    5. 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled Granny Smith apples
    6. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    7. 1 cup sugar
    8. 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    9. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    10. 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    11. 2 tablespoons butter
    12. 1 egg white
    13. 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 📝 Instructions:

1️⃣ In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. Gradually add water, tossing with a fork until a ball forms. Divide dough in half. Shape each into a disk; wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until easy to handle. 🍴

  • 2️⃣ Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out one-half of the dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Transfer pastry to pie plate. Trim the pastry to 1/2 inch beyond the edge of the plate. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg; add to apples and toss to coat. Transfer to pastry. Dot with butter. Roll out the remaining pastry to fit the top of the pie; place over the filling. Trim, seal, and flute edges. Cut slits in the top. Beat egg white until foamy; brush over pastry. Sprinkle with sugar. Cover edges loosely with foil. 🥄

  • 3️⃣ Bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy! 🍽️

  • Notes 💡:
◻️ Granny Smith apples are recommended for their tartness and firm texture.
◻️ For a decorative touch, use cookie cutters to make shapes from the leftover pastry dough and arrange them on top of the pie before baking. 🍪
